From the moment we walked into the middle floor lounge during the house viewing I knew three things,

  1. This space was special and I could see myself sipping tea and watching my kids play in the meadow out the back.
  2. The light was insane.
  3. I needed to created in this space.

The windows alone would have won it for me, but the 6 meter ceiling and panelling just made me giddy. It was a really cool space and the original owners were an architects and photographers in the 1970’s and 80’s so it was clearly meant to be! (Apparently, they used to host parties with a DJ booth with the mezzanine level all opened up – we’ve since had to block up the mezzanine to create an extra bedroom – but it was so cool)

Anyhow, the lounge – spanned the width of the house and was also south facing with a ‘doer-upper’ balcony that I couldn’t wait to get my hands on. We needed to live here.

Fast forward 9 months later after a gruelling house buying process, the creating began.

We decorated it ourselves (with indoor scaffolding) and I consulted  a favourite Instagram friend of mine , Emily Brooks from Colour in your home  I knew the vibe I wanted, but unlike other homes I HAD to get the colour right. I could’nt change my mind a repaint a ceiling  – that would require me to order scaffolding in every time!

So Emily used her experience and helped me hone the colours that would work well together. She was a godsend colour fairy. I saved so much faffing with a million tester pots too! She’s well worth looking into for interior advice. (Tell her I sent you 🙂

During the first year living here.  I’ve hosted a photography workshop for other photographers and I have now decided to  provide Mini Motherhood photoshoots too on selected dates throughout the year.

How would I describe the motherhood photoshoot visual?

Well the lounge decor is a bit 1970s with a dash of boho and a splash of Morocco and plants lots of plants. The colours sing together like a sunset and the painted ceilings envelop you like a warm hug.

Outfit colour stories that work best included greens, rust orange, browns, caramels, charcoals, neutral off whites, marroon, dusky pink.

I always get asked what the lounge paint colours are so here you go…

Farrow and Ball ‘Hay’ and Farrow and Ball ‘Off white’  paired with Craig and Rose’s ‘Rust’ (discontinued) all photograph beautifully.

So if you want something a bit different instead of the four white walls you get in a ‘normal’ studio setting you are welcome to come visit my cosy large and cosy lounge during one of my upcoming motherhood mini dates.

In the meanwhile, enjoy some of the Motherhood photoshoot photographs below and hop to my Motherhood mini photoshoot page for more details on dates for you and how to book.
